Zendesk Opens Asia Pacific Commercial Headquarters in Singapore

Zendesk, Inc. (NYSE:ZEN), a leading provider of cloud-based customer service software, today announced the opening of its new Asia Pacific commercial headquarters based in Singapore as part of its expanded commitment to the region following the acquisition last year of Zopim, a live chat startup from Singapore.

Mr. Teo Ser Luck, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, joined as the guest of honor for an opening ceremony and tour at the new headquarters with Mikkel Svane, Zendesk founder, CEO and chairman, and Royston Tay, Zopim co-founder and Zendesk vice president and general manager of chat.

"Zopim has become such a core part of Zendesk over the past year and paved the way for us to make Singapore a significant regional home for our combined operations," Svane said. "Singapore is the perfect gateway to the entire Asia Pacific region for us. It serves as the regional home to so many global companies and a hotbed of emerging local businesses and startups."

Zendesk acquired Zopim to expand its live chat capabilities and enable organizations of all sizes to engage proactively with customers and build closer relationships with them. In addition to being the base for Zendesk's regional marketing and sales, the new location will serve as the global home for Zopim's operations and growing chat product deelopment for proactive customer engagement.

Zendesk's new office is almost triple the size of Zopim's previous Singapore home across the street. Within the region, Zendesk and Zopim have more than 6,700 paid customer accounts, including Singapore-based companies Eu Yan Sang International Limited, Lazada Group and Zalora.

Zopim has deep Singapore roots. It was founded in 2008 by four alumni of the National University of Singapore (NUS) Overseas Colleges program and incubated by NUS Enterprise, before its acquisition by Zendesk.

"We were able to build a global company from within Singapore because of the welcoming and increasingly vibrant startup ecosystem," said Zopim co-founder Tay. "Now together with Zendesk, we're proud to bring an even deeper commitment to the local community with our new headquarters and investments in community engagement."

As part of the office opening, Zendesk and Zopim committed today to invest $100,000 SGD and at least 400 hours of volunteer service from employees in local community organizations and non-profits. Modeled after Zendesk's corporate social responsibility program at its San Francisco headquarters, the Singapore community commitments will focus on charities that promote workforce development and technical literacy, improve education and professional development for underserved youth, provide supportive services to seniors, and promote gender equality in the workplace including to grow the number of female engineers.

The new Asia Pacific headquarters joins three other Zendesk offices in the region: Zendesk's Asia Pacific Development Centre based in Melbourne, a regional hub in Manila, and a sales office in Tokyo.
