Recent Momentum Propels NuoDB into Rapid Growth Phase

NuoDB, the leader in scale-out SQL database technology for global operations, released highlights today for its fiscal quarter ending March 31, 2015. Evidenced by a series of corporate and customer successes, 2015 has already proven to be a year of accelerated growth across all aspects of the organization.

Global Databases Address Customer Demands

Since January, NuoDB successfully closed a number of lighthouse deals, including expanding its reach in financial services with one of the largest multinational banks in the United States. The customer chose NuoDB because it sought a database that could perform locally in a number of countries and be distributed across wide area networks while still operating continuously as a single, logical database.

Expanding Worldwide Team to Drive Continued Growth

In January, NuoDB announced the opening of its new Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) headquarters in the United Kingdom. The EMEA office spearheaded international growth with a new reseller partnership in South Africa (BITanium), as well as new customers such as MatchMe, a pioneer in delivering a robust, global and synchronous gaming platform.

NuoDB significantly expanded its sales capacity with veteran hires in sales, services, and marketing:

  • Dirk Hamstra, vice president of professional services, responsible for customer success
  • Dai Clegg, senior director of product marketing, responsible for sales enablement
  • Sales leaders Brian Smith, Ross Hinchcliffe, and the previously announced Martin Gaffney, responsible for rapidly growing NuoDB's customer base throughout the US and internationally

Together, new team members bring 100 years of enterprise software experience from companies such as BEA, Cloudera, IBM/Netezza, IONA Technologies, Lombardi Software, Microsoft (News - Alert), Object Design, Oracle, Pegasystems, Pivotal, Parametric Technology Corporation (PTC), Sun Microsystems, Tivoli, and Vertica/HP.

Q1 Product Innovation Breaks New Ground

With the release of Larks Release 2.2, NuoDB further cemented its leadership in delivering a continuously available database with new resiliency and disaster recovery capabilities.

After evaluating Larks, new customer Radia, one of the largest and most progressive radiology groups in the United States, selected NuoDB to deliver an elastically scalable database for their advanced data management needs. As the group continues to expand, Radia needed a SQL database that could scale-out to meet evolving requirements - something that its previous traditional SQL database could not achieve.

In addition, NuoDB continued the rapid expansion of its Engineering team worldwide, hiring aggressively in both the United States and Europe. NuoDB will announce its European development expansion plans during the second quarter of this year.

Financing to Propel Future Growth

Driven in part by its significant first quarter momentum, NuoDB also secured substantial additional funding to support the rapid growth in all areas of the business.

David Revell, chief information officer, at Radia:

"When we needed to increase database capacity, we found the traditional scale-up architecture of our previous database to be difficult, costly, and risky. NuoDB not only simplifies database management, it enables us to take advantage of commodity hardware and quickly adjust the size of the database as we grow."

MatchMe's senior server-side engineer commented:

"NuoDB's aggressive approach to database architecture enables us to dynamically scale our high-velocity gaming platform to match the peaks and valleys of user demand. We looked at all of our options, including well-established, traditional databases such as Oracle (News - Alert), but couldn't find anyone else that could provide the elasticity NuoDB delivers."

Barry Morris, CEO and Co-Founder, NuoDB:

"NuoDB's commitment to customers is the foundation of our continued success. This quarter's rapid growth indicates that the market is demanding a drastically different database approach based on a distributed architecture. We look forward to freeing more organizations from the limitations and costs of traditional databases."
