MetroPCS, a flagship brand of T-Mobile US, has deployed the Amdocs (News - Alert) Enterprise Payment Processing solution, as part of a strategic multi-year agreement.

With this deployment, it is expected that MetroPCS will be able to enhance and optimize its customers' electronic payment options as well as reduce the operational costs associated with customer payments.

According to a recent market report, mobile payment is set to become one of the fastest growing sectors in the coming years. The increasing use of smartphones is driving this growth. However, there are many challenges that this industry has to tackle, including security, transaction fees and lack of understanding.

Eric Updyke, president of the North America region at Amdocs, noted that service providers are eager to exploit the full potential of mobile payments that their customers are demanding, but are concerned about the challenges such as transaction fees impacting their bottom line, or customers not understanding how to correctly make a payment.

"Our Enterprise Payment Processing solution, deployed quickly at MetroPCS, allows MetroPCS to meet these challenges with a single, secure, private cloud-based payments processing solution managed by Amdocs,” Updyke said.

He believes that this will provide greater convenience for customers and also will keep operational and transaction costs under control, while also allowing for flexibility as the electronic payments space continues to evolve rapidly.

Amdocs Enterprise Payment Processing solution, a multi-channel payment gateway service, is enabling MetroPCS to offer its customers electronic payment options across all channels, including Interactive Voice Response (IVR), Web portal, SMS or through an agent in the contact center.

For the customers, “smart tender steering” is one of the benefits of the solution, as it processes payments using a cost-effective transactional method. This leads to minimizing transaction fees and maximizing revenue, according to company officials.

The private cloud-based solution is managed from an Amdocs managed services data center. Moreover, it also interfaces with multiple banks and other financial institutions, and also contact center services, company officials said.

“We are thrilled to continue our long-standing relationship with Amdocs by introducing this new solution which creates a shorter, simpler electronic payment process,” said Gary King, chief information officer for technology at T-Mobile (News - Alert).

Earlier last month, Sprint announced the deployment of Amdocs' Smart Agent Desktop, a component of Amdocs' CES product portfolio.
