Oman’s Bank Muscat has launched an interactive voice response (IVR) banking service, which will get all of its financial services up to speed with new technology.

IVR typically uses a key pad or speech recognition so consumers can interact with a company’s technology system. Both consumers and companies often find the technology a more efficient option in handling customer requests.

BankMuscat, which is based in the Sultanate of Oman, hopes its customers and clients will appreciate the new IVR option, given its focuses in such areas as corporate, retail, private and investment banking, as well as Treasury and asset management, according to a report from CPI Financial.

The IVR service lets customers log in using a 16-digit debit card and 4-digit ATM PIN, which makes it easier to use and ensures security. Phone (News - Alert) options include fund transfers to a personal bank account or to a third-party account in Bank Muscat, or even a third-party account at another bank. In addition, there can be a speedy transfer of funds to India.

There are also some routine uses of the service, such as paying utility bills, school fees and credit cards. And when it comes to convenience, customers can get balances on accounts, loans, credit cards and deposits. Customers are able, too, to get a mini- account statement via e-mail or by fax. If a card is lost or stolen, customers can block the card. The bank provides other convenient services such as checkbook orders, application forms, deposit rates, exchange rates, and a branch locator to find the nearest branch. As of earlier this year, the bank had assets worth over $15 billion at 130 branches. To get an idea of the size of the bank, Bank Muscat has the largest call center among banks in Oman, with some 200,000 calls a month. Languages spoken for the phone IVR include Arabic, English and Hindi.
