Netelligent Managing the Change within the Business

(ENP Newswire Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) ENP Newswire - 28 July 2014 Release date- 28072014 - The push toward a leaner IT is driven by organizations large and small, who are looking for ways to boost productivity, become more efficient and stretch their IT budgets.

Some are migrating to a full cloud solution as a quick means to an end, while others are taking longer to figure out which options work for them. Hybrid IT is helping more and more organizations streamline their processes, manage multiple technologies (and vendors), and move select IT services to the cloud. In this way, hybrid IT is making 'lean' possible.

Over the next three to five years, organizations will make important choices. Will they keep their IT services on premise, will they find a managed services provider, will they move IT to the cloud or will they 'get lean' by using hybrid IT? If you're one of these companies, what should you consider as you manage the transition within your business? Think about Your Roadmap Focus on your vision for the business. If you're using two premier manufacturers in house and a third party to manage, consider where you stand today and whether this particular option will get you where you need to be, five years down the road. OEM providers want customers to upgrade every three years to keep current, but systems will run for five to seven. So look at your options from a 'cost-over-term' standpoint, and thoroughly evaluate how the different consumption models fit into your overall vision.

Look Outside of IT Make sure IT is working closely with your other lines of business. We may start to see a shift in dollars from the IT budget to the CMO, CSO or sales departments because these departments also run the business. With so many users on iPads, smartphones, tablets and other devices, there is a growing need to fit their demands into the technology infrastructure.

We work with an insurance broker whose business and application development teams move information, data and money very quickly between departments. These teams are continually searching for ways to improve their systems and service to customers. Where these departments once researched solutions, they now look to us to incorporate those solutions into their existing environment, manage and support them.

Leverage the Expertise and Scale of a Hosted Partner Consider a cloud service for at least part of your solution, as the scale and expertise of a hosted partner will really come into play. With a hosted solution, you have access to enterprise class equipment, feature rich technology, 24/7 monitoring, and certified engineers for troubleshooting and support. You only choose the services you need, and pay only for what you consume. This eliminates the tendency to purchase equipment that holds more capacity than you truly need.

Elevate Internal IT towards Innovation Think about unloading legacy, commodity IT functions to an outside provider, as this will enable your IT to redirect its focus toward more strategic projects. When certain burdens are moved out of the way, such as taking an internal help desk call or crawling under a desk, IT can apply more energy toward what the company needs most. For most organizations, applications are the 'secret sauce' of the business. Unloading infrastructure and systems to a third party will allow IT to run those applications with maximum efficiency.

Consider On-Site Training Talk to the experts. If you're already using a provider to manage and monitor your services, you likely have bi weekly or monthly meetings with your account manager. Ask your partner if they offer staff augmentation, or on-site training and support with an engineer on a scheduled basis. This will allow them to better understand how your company operates from an IT perspective, and will provide you with expert guidance as you shift through on premise, managed or hosted technology platform.

Staff augmentation seems to be a growing trend, and we've addressed this need for our own clients through our NetTend plan. For clients using this service, we can add in a bank of hours every month with one of our engineers. This type of knowledge transfer has made a big impact, and provided us with an opportunity to engage with our customers on a much deeper level.

Get Lean More and more companies are taking a leaner approach and leveraging the endless consumption possibilities that hybrid IT has to offer. Most companies already have some type of cloud or hosted service today, whether it's hosted email, network support and monitoring, CRM software or a cloud provider for storage, infrastructure or backup. The trend is clearly visible, and more and more businesses are using this model to stretch their IT dollars, maximize their investments and 'get lean'.
