Brokerage Firm to Sell Portfolio of Seven Workforce Management Patents
Many businesses around the world benefit from the use of patents. Some companies have teams of specialized patent writers to craft documents that will award them the rights to develop a product, and they and others, may simply use their capital to buy competitors patents so they can develop ideas that others have already pushed through the patent office.
One patent brokerage company, Global Technology (News - Alert) Transfer Group, announced this past week that it has made available for sale a patent portfolio of seven U.S. patents related to the fields of Web applications, mobile workforce management systems, and professional service automation systems that include time tracking and project management. The summary of the portfolio says it will be made available for a select group of parties which may bid for the collection. The deadline for bid submissions is Nov. 12, 2014.
Andrew Godsey, the GTT Group director of asset services, explains that the portfolio is applicable to companies that develop software and IT products and that such companies will show interest in bidding for the set.
"Companies are relying more and more on software and web applications to interact with both their employees and customers," Godsey said. "This portfolio relates well to what is available in the market and we believe there will be significant interest from software and Internet technology companies."
The press release for the patent portfolio describes its contents as including inventions that pertain to tracking employees and contractors, work time and performance, and user interaction with various systems. It explains that the patents are applicable to the fields of mobile workforce management, time-tracking, and project management. It also notes that there are inventions pertaining to a tabbed graphical user interface that can contain different screens based on user permission levels. With that sort of patent, the buyer may be able to use it to create a Web application that allows different users to manipulate select tabs as it relates to their responsibilities and permissions. Users who have the correct permissions could potentially modify the user interface itself.
The company will be approaching potential buyers to explain the benefits the portfolio can provide for their individual companies. Following bids received by November 12, GTT Group will conduct a private auction to sell the portfolio.
