Egenera Launches Xterity Cloud Services

Egenera, a leader in converged infrastructure and cloud management software today announced they have launched a multi-cloud service specifically built for managed service providers and the traditional IT reseller community. The Xterity partner model allows resellers to quickly enter the cloud services market with their own branded service without up-front capital costs or ongoing management costs, and with the margins needed to ensure a profitable cloud services business.

Xterity provides resellers with the ability to design, price and manage complex multi-cloud application environments for their end user customers. Xterity also includes the multi-tier business and service management features resellers need to manage their commercial engagement with customers.

The analyst community is increasingly pointing to wholesale cloud as a way for the traditional channel partners to maintain their customer relationships while becoming cloud service brokers. As Tiffani Bova, VP and Distinguished Analyst at Gartner points out in a report, "IT wholesale distributors remain critical players in the traditional IT supply chain and continue to look for ways to add value as cloud adoption continues to accelerate."1

Xterity is built on Egenera Cloud Suite, an award-winning cloud orchestration platform that enables users to quickly create and manage scalable, secure and highly reliable private, public and hybrid cloud services. The software automates the implementation of complex IT environments including applications, networking and security workflows, and gives the operator a single control pane from which they can manage the commercial and technical engagement with their clients.

"Xterity provides a tremendous opportunity for managed service providers and the IT channel," said Pete Manca, CEO of Egenera. "A global wholesale service like this makes it simple for partners to deliver a fully managed cloud service and deploy mission critical applications - all without having to build, manage or own their own infrastructure. This frees resellers to focus on their customer relationships, create custom solutions and enhance their brand with their end users."

By hosting the service inside Equinix (News - Alert), Egenera enables its partner community to leverage and integrate the advantages of Platform Equinix™ -- including the global footprint, high performance connectivity options and global supply-chain ecosystems to deliver solutions that precisely meet their performance, reliability and cost requirements.

Pete Hayes, CSO at Equinix, said, "Xterity combines the strengths of Egenera with the cloud interconnection value of Platform Equinix to provide a service that supports our expanding global channel partner program. For Equinix, this solution helps further our goal to provide interconnection value to our customers, and serves as a place where businesses and cloud service providers come together to accelerate cloud adoption by connecting securely and directly within our data centers."
