SumTotal Announces Results for First Half of 2014; Achieves 89 Percent Growth in New Customer Cloud Bookings

GAINESVILLE, Fla. --(Business Wire)--

SumTotal® Systems, LLC, one of the largest independent providers of learning and HR solutions, today announced an 89-percent increase in new customer cloud software bookings for the first six months of 2014 over the same period last year. In the second quarter alone, SumTotal's new customer bookings grew by 173 percent, and overall new cloud bookings were up more than 175 percent as compared with second quarter 2013.

Highlights from the first half of 2014 include:

  • The addition of 70 new customers including State Employees' Credit Union (SECU), the second largest natural member credit union in the US; Achievers, a global provider of cloud-based employee engagement and recognition software; AlohaCare, a non-profit health plan providing coverage to nearly 75,000 members throughout Hawaii; as well as one of the world's largest fast food chains.
  • Seventy-five percent year-over-year growth in second quarter new customer bookings in Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), including prominent financial services customers across France, Switzerland, Austria, and the United Arab Emirates.
  • Strategic cross-sells to customers adopting additional SumTotal solutions including Patterson Companies (Nasdaq: PDCO), which added compensation; Port of Houston Authority, which added performance management and succession planning; Misys, which added succession planning.

SumTotal CEO Hardeep Gulati, who stepped into his new role in January after previously serving as SumTotal's COO, said the company's solid results reflect investments in product development, cloud operations and customer success resources made during the past 18 months.

"Our performance in the first half of 2014 was driven by strong customer demand for SumTotal's cloud solutions and our ability to deliver an unparalleled customer experience," Gulati said. "SumTotal continues to differentiate in a noisy market by delivering personalized, flexible, next-generation HR solutions that anticipate customer needs - from CEOs, HR leaders and their employees. With strong financial results, highly successful customers and a commitment to innovative solutions that put people at the center, SumTotal is well positioned to continue our business momentum in the second half of 2014 and beyond."

SumTotal's cloud business continued to soar in the first half of the year with organizations selecting cloud solutions to accelerate their learning, talent and workforce management initiatives. To support this growth, SumTotal expanded its cloud services to ensure the highest scalability, availability and capacity for its more than 17 million global cloud users. As new and existing customers increasingly adopt SumTotal's hosted and SaaS solutions, the company continues to invest in technology and tools to facilitate their seamless transition to the cloud.

Gulati highlighted several SumTotal product innovations that have underpinned the company's success, including the elixHR® platform, which allows customers to virtualize HR data across disparate HR and business applications to get a unified view of their workforce, and the launch of industry's first context-aware solutions for HR that proactively deliver hyper-personalized talent, learning and workforce management information and actions to users, when and where they need them.

SumTotal provides a flexible approach to HR transformation that is unique in the market. Big-box ERPs require a rip-and-replace approach and force customers to abandon existing HR systems. In contrast, SumTotal provides customers with the option to extend the lifecycle of these existing systems while still providing a cohesive view of employee and business data. This allows customers to incrementally rollout SumTotal's solutions and integrate with other applications to minimize costs and maximize value.

The expansion of SumTotal's partner and channels team increased momentum in international markets. The company added 10 new partners and resellers, including Sunlink, a Hong Kong based consulting firm, and Aura-tech, a learning and talent partner in Singapore, to resell SumTotal's HR solutions and service offerings to customers.

During the first half of 2014, SumTotal was recognized by several thought leaders, industry analysts and business organizations for its vision and product innovation. The company was awarded a Gold Brandon Hall Group Excellence Award for elixHR in the "Best Advance in Creating a Fully Integrated Talent Management Platform" category. Bsoco, an international industry body that evaluates and recognizes business software based on functionality and user experience, honored the company with a first place award in the learning management systems category, and TrainingIndustry.com named SumTotal a 2014 Top 20 Authoring Tools provider.

SumTotal also earned recognition from leading industry analysts for its Talent Expansion suite. In addition to being rated a Visionary in Gartner's 2014 Talent Management Suites Magic Quadrant1, SumTotal was included in Bersin by Deloitte's (News - Alert) "Talent Management Systems 2014: Solution Provider Comparisons and Profiles" 2 report, for its end-to-end talent management capabilities.
