In order to provide better customer support for its shoppers, apparel retailer rue21 has upgraded its point of sale software through its partnership with Epicor Software (News - Alert) Corporation.

rue21 will begin using the latest version of Epicor Retail Store, the point of sale solution that can deliver an omnichannel customer experience. The official rue21 announcement says the company is one of the fastest growing apparel retailers in the U.S. and has approximately 1,050 stores in a total of 47 states, and those customers can take advantage of Epicor Retail Store in both virtual and brick and mortar rue21 locations. Dirk Armstrong, senior vice president of rue21 store operations, commented on the experience customers will receive as a result of the upgrade.

"Shoppers will soon experience a new level of service from rue21," Armstrong said. "Epicor Retail Store gives us the foundation to create a seamless customer experience across our stores and our eCommerce business. We will have the ability to better serve customers through an understanding of their past purchases, enabling us to anticipate future wants and needs."

More specifically, the upgraded software will provide customers with the ability to return and exchange items they purchased at any location – online or in person – and rue21 as a whole will be able to offer customers promotional items by better targeting their shopping habits and personal tastes.

Epicor states on its website that the Epicor Retail Store software can help businesses improve customer experiences by reducing checkout times, allowing customers to complete transactions from multiple locations, and drive customer relationship management. It also provides "back-office" applications that allow managers to handle inventory and conduct employee maintenance all while monitoring their sales floors.

Mike Holland, senior vice president and chief information officer at rue21, commented that rue21 plans to expand to 1,700 stores and needed a point of sale system that could scale with the brand's plans. The IT department will be using Windows Embedded POSReady 7 in tandem with Epicor Retail Store to "simplify both management and deployment," Holland said.
