Customers Claim Starlink Customer Service Nonexistent

By Luke Bellos January 25, 2022

Since its inception, SpaceX’s Starlink program has generated a massive amount of hype. Now, remote and under populated areas of the globe gain reliable access to high-speed low latency internet at an affordable rate. But as groundbreaking as Starlink may be in terms of innovation, the company seems to be lacking the same diligence in terms of customer support.

Starlink has yet to become fully operational, but the company made it possible for some customers to pre-order Starlink kits in preparation for limited deployment. But after nearly a year of waiting, some customers became dissatisfied and attempted to get their deposits refunded. A recent article from Insider highlighted numerous examples of customers claiming Starlink’s customer service department as being totally unresponsive.

For instance, the article discusses one customer who paid a $100 deposit back in February, expecting his service to go live two months later. After 10 months of zero progress, the customer attempted to reach out to Starlink for reimbursement, but found the company had no number for customer service. Another customer was in a similar position, also putting down a $100 deposit for early access. Although this customer was able to successfully request a reimbursement, the deposit was never returned, despite the Starlink account claiming the opposite.

Starlink still has the potential to be a revolutionary service in the coming years. But receiving payment for a service and delivering nothing in return is theft, plain and simple. Early Starlink customers have a basic right to know when their paid service will become available. If there are issues or delays, the company should be in communication.

The company is obviously still working out some problems. But if Starlink really wants to contend as a global  internet service provider, it's going to have to transform its customer service.
